CETAG Declared Indefinite Strike – 14th June 2024

The National Executive Committe (NEC) and the entire CETAG fraternity has agreed to go on an indefinite strike action involving all the 46 public colleges of education in the country.

The strike action takes effect from today Friday 14th June 2024 until all CETAG demands are met.

Reason for the Strike Action

The strike action of CETAG is grounded in the following reasons;

  • Failure of their emploer to comply with the National Labour Commission (NLC) decisions and orders given by the Compulsory Arbitration Awards agreed on.
  • CETAG has taken all the necessary steps to ensure that their employer has complied with NLC decisions, but all their efforts were not fruitful since their employer refused to listen to them.
  • In August 2023, CETAG embarked on an indefinite strike and through the intervention of NLC they called off the strike hoping that their employer would do the needful but nothing happened.
  • failure of their employer to pay deserving members of CETAG a top-up of research allowance as arrears arising from CETAG’s 2023 condition of service agreement signed with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).
  • Failure to restore the frozen August 2023 salaries of CETAG National President and other members without justifiable cause.

2. Delayed Completion of Courses: The strike can lead to delays in the completion of courses for students. If the strike prolongs, it may result in a backlog of lessons and coursework, potentially extending the academic year for affected students.

3. Compromised Quality of Education: The absence of teachers due to the strike can compromise the quality of education that students receive. Lack of regular instruction and support from educators can impact students’ understanding and mastery of course materials.

5. Disrupted Academic Calendar: The strike can disrupt the established academic calendar, leading to rescheduling of exams, adjustments in semester timelines, and potential changes in other academic activities. This disruption can create challenges for both students and educational institutions in managing their schedules effectively.

Conclusion
