CETAG Strike and End of Semester Exams Invigilation

Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) declared a nationwide strike action across the 46 public colleges in the country.

CETAG demands full payment of seven months’ arrears of allowances accruing from the approved conditions of service owed members per the NC’s Arbitral Award Order.

And also a payment of one-month salary to each member as compensation for additional duty perforred in the year 2022, as ordered by NLC and also nconditional cancellation of the “killer” all-year-round academic calendar effective 2023/2024 academic year among others.

CETAG Strike and End of Semester Exams Invigilation

The strike action which was declared a week ago is likely to distrupt the academic calendar which has currently resulted in the hault ot teaching.

CETAG has ordered its members to withdraw all their services which may also inculde the invigilation of end of semester examination. The current Level 300 students are about to commence their examination.

The examination is schedule to commence on the 14th of August 2023. CETAG is on strike and this question now remains unasnwered: who invigilates the end of semester examination?

Who Invigilates the End of Semester Examination? Teaching or Non-Teaching Staff

CETAG withdrawal of service which includes anything that has to do with lecture halls and lecturers in the frontline giving directives or monitoring has caused an alarm.

If members strictly follow orders from the CETAG leadership, it means no lecturer will invigilate the examination but rather, non-teaching staff of the college of education.

Preparations are already underway for the examination to commence. The strike action would not affect the examination only that student-teachers may not see their lecturers invigilating.

We encourage students to learn smart and adequately prepare for the examination. There is no sign of CETAG calling off the strike hence, students must keep learning by themselves.

We shall keep updating student teachers and the general public with regards to the strike action.
