CETAG Strike Update: CETAG Calls Off Strike Temporarily

After a meeting with the Honorable Minister of Education, the members of CETAG have agreed to put a hold on their strike action temporarily to hear the response from the government.

There was a meeting held between the Honorable Minister of Education with representatives of CETAG, PRINCOF, and affiliate universities among others which concluded that CETAG should report today to make the final decision.

At the meeting yesterday, the Hon. Minister assured leadership for the third time to give him that trust to do it for CETAG, just as he did it for UTAG, TUTAG et al recently; failure of which CETAG can resume her strike after two weeks.

In order to give the Honorable Minister of Education the opportunity to work out the solution to CETAG’s problem, a vote was organized.

All 46 colleges of education voted with the exception of eleven (11) colleges that were not present (or maybe refused to vote).

Below is the final outcome of the voting.

  • Continue with strike till all demands are met: 17 Representing: 48.57%
  • Suspend the strike. Resume if outstanding issues are not resolved within two weeks after suspension: 18 Representing: 51.43%
  • ABSTENTION: 11

By a majority decision of 51.43% at the close of voting and collation today, 14th December 2022, at 6:00 P.M. the strike
stands suspended. Strike to resume if outstanding issues are not resolved within two weeks after this suspension.

If CETAG does not receive favorable conditions or reach a favorable agreement with the government or all their demands are not met after two weeks, the strike will be activated again.
