TTAG Urges Government to Engage Stakeholders to Call Off Strike

The leadership of TTAG hereby address the recent developments concerning the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) strike which took effect yesterday, 1st August 2023.

Regrettably, TTAG has been notified of the CETAG letter referenced CET/NDL.C/STRIKE DOC. Vol.I, dated 31″ July, 2023.

In light of this development, the leadership of TTAG is appealing to the Director General of the Ghana Tertiary of Education Commission (GTEC) to facilitate engagement with relevant stakeholders and intervene on behalf of CETAG to urge the Government to honor the reliefs specified in the National Labour Commission (NLC) and Fare Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC).

The CETAG strike, which is scheduled took effect from Tuesday, August 1, 2023, will have significant ramifications on the academic performance of Teacher Trainees.

In the spirit of true service to Teacher Trainees and the joint quest for quality and progressive Teacher Education and Training in our country, the leadership of TTAG would like to, by this statement, make an appeal to the Government on the CETAG strike and wish to state that;

  1. The Government should urgently engage relevant stakeholders to fulfill the reliefs specified in the National Labour Commission (NLC) and Fare Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC) arbitral award order signed on 2nd May. 2023, with case number NL.C/C-435/2022.
  2. In the spirit of finding an amicable resolution, both CETAG and the Government should explore committal compromises if possible, to promptly resolve the differences that led to the strike action.
  3. While recognizing the challenges faced by CETAG, we kindly request them to consider the plight of Teacher Trainees with mercy and understanding of their academic progress during this hard time, as they approach the negotiation table with the Government to reach a resolution.

TTAG calls on all Teacher Trainees to remain steadfast and prioritize safety as the leadership diligently works to safeguard the interests of all. Your cooperation and support are greatly appreciated.
